The Season of Growth and Renewal

Spring began officially on the 20th of March, the Vernal Equinox. I have always loved the spring, such a season of renewal. In my corner of the world, spring comes on the tail end of what can be a nasty winter. Although this past winter was not so bad, as winters go, it still felt very long. I am not a fan of the cold or the snow. I can see the beauty in winter, but really have no desire to spend much time outside in it. Winter for me, is a time of reflection and staying inside, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Spring, on the other hand – I love this time of year. Again, in my area spring can be quite unpleasant weatherwise. The chance of snow lasts well into March and sometimes early April (not often thankfully). Rain is a given, but usually I don’t mind the rain. I love the sound of rain on the roof and I love the smell of the earth after a rain. The rain means the earth will soon erupt with flowers and greenery. Ahhhh Spring!
This is a wonderful time of year to clear out the stagnant energy in your surroundings and aura that hang on after the long winter. I see this time of year as a catalyst to clearing my personal energy and my home of any lingering negativity or heaviness, and spring forward with renewed clarity and positivity.

To begin clearing my spirit I walk. I am fortunate to live near the ocean, and this is my favorite place to walk and let the brisk spring breezes blow away anything that I no longer need to carry. I love the smell of the air by the shore and take advantage of its rejuvenating qualities by breathing it in – deeply. I always take some time to just look out over the waves and do some deep breathing exercises to center and ground my energy. There is nothing like a good walk by the ocean to clear your head, your spirit and to insure a good night’s sleep after. The healing medicine of sea and sky is a wonderful thing.
There are also many beautiful natural refuges and parks in my area. I enjoy my adventures in nature very much. Spring is when I can return to the trails that haven’t been accessible during the winter. I love hiking in the woods, both on trails I know, and discovering new ones as I wander. This walking in natural surroundings brings me such peace and helps me to shake off the stresses of the day. This is my place of contemplation, of respite, and of healing. I enjoy finding the little signs of spring along the trail, tiny plants just beginning to burst through the soil, animals foraging and chattering, birds building nests and singing their songs. This is my cathedral, where I feel closest to God and open to signs and messages from spirit.

I am planning to head out for a hike later today, it is sunny and still a little chilly, but overall a great day for a walk. I would suggest you do the same as the season unfolds. Do what you can. If you aren’t up for a long hike in the woods or by the ocean, maybe just drive to your favorite natural spot and sit quietly and take it all in. Breathe deeply, listen to the birds, smell the fresh spring air. Being outside is so cleansing for the soul. With each breath you take in, ask to release any negative or stagnant energy you carry. Blow away anything that no longer serves you. Then, when you are ready, go forward with joy and positivity and . . .
